Exploring the Wonders of San Antonio, Texas: A Memorable Journey
This was going to be my first trip after moving to the United States, and I was beyond excited! We were a group of friends, but my husband and I were the only ones traveling with a kid. We knew it was going to be an adventure!
Since it was my first big trip, we decided to make it extra special by doing a road trip from Dallas, Texas, to San Antonio. One of our friends had already been to San Antonio, so they knew all the must-visit spots, which made planning easier.
To top it off, it was Christmas week—the holiday vibes were everywhere, making the trip even more magical!
Natural Bridge Caverns: A Must-Visit Destination in Texas
We left Dallas on December 22, 2023, around 7 AM, and since we had already booked an Airbnb, we headed straight there. We arrived around 1 PM, and that day, I learned something valuable—Airbnbs are a fantastic option when traveling with kids, especially toddlers. Ever since then, we’ve preferred Airbnbs for our trips because they make traveling so much more relaxing and stress-free.
After resting for a bit, we set out for our first destination—Natural Bridge Caverns in San Antonio, Texas. We arrived there by 3 PM. Visitors were grouped together, and each group had a guide assigned to them. As we stepped into the cave, honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but as soon as we walked in, it was just jaw-dropping. The whole cave system is super impressive, with these giant rock formations everywhere, and the colors? Absolutely stunning.
It was a guided cave tour, so you’re learning cool stuff along the way. I swear, every turn had something new that made you stop and go, “Wow, nature is wild.” There’s this huge open space in the cave, and the sound of water dripping in the background just added to the whole vibe. It feels like something out of a movie, only it’s real!
And if you’re into a little adventure, they also have a couple of more challenging tours you can do, like the Adventure Tour, where you get to crawl through tight spaces. But honestly, just the regular tour was enough to make me feel like I’d discovered a hidden treasure. I definitely recommend adding Natural Bridge Caverns to your San Antonio travel itinerary when you’re in the area!
If you're planning a trip to San Antonio, Natural Bridge Caverns is a must-visit attraction! It’s a great place to explore for families, adventurers, and nature lovers alike.
Exploring the San Antonio River Walk: Food, Fun, and Relaxing Vibes
After the awesome cave adventure, we headed straight to the San Antonio River Walk, and wow—it was like stepping into a whole new world! The whole place had this super chill yet lively vibe. Twinkling lights, the sound of water, people laughing, music playing from the restaurants—it was just perfect.
We took our time strolling along the river, just soaking it all in. Since it was Christmas week, the whole place had this magical, festive feel. And of course, we had to stop for some Tex-Mex food—because what’s a trip to San Antonio without tacos, right? Sitting by the water, munching on amazing food, and just enjoying the moment was honestly one of the best parts.
Oh, the boat tour was something I really wanted to do, but it was getting late, and my toddler was getting tired and cranky, so we decided to skip it this time. But if you ever visit San Antonio, the River Walk is a must-see—whether you're looking to explore, grab a bite to eat, or just relax by the water and enjoy the vibe!
Fun at SeaWorld San Antonio: Rides, Animal Shows, and Christmas Parade!
After soaking in the vibes at the San Antonio River Walk, the next day we headed to SeaWorld San Antonio, and wow, what an adventure! It was a whole different kind of fun, combining thrilling rides and up-close animal experiences. If you’ve got kids or just love animals, it’s definitely a spot you don’t want to miss.
We started our day by grabbing some lunch since we were all pretty hungry by then. After eating, we spent some time exploring and soaking in the sights. Then, it was time for the rides, and wow, what an experience! I honestly felt like a kid again, enjoying every moment. After the rides, we headed to the Sea Orcas show, which was absolutely amazing. Following that, we watched the dolphins and sea lions perform, and let me tell you, it was an incredible show!
Then, we ventured around the park to see the animals up close. From penguins to sharks to exotic birds, it was a cool experience for both kids and adults. The best part? The variety of exhibits that kept everyone entertained, no matter their age.
We didn’t get to do everything in one day, but SeaWorld is definitely one of those places where you can easily spend an entire day with the family. Whether you’re into learning about marine life or just looking for some fun, SeaWorld San Antonio has something for everyone!
Since it was Christmas week, there was a Christmas parade, and it was awesome! My toddler was so happy watching the people dancing in colorful costumes. It was such a fun and festive experience that really added to the holiday vibe.
Texas State Capitol Visit: Closed for the Day
After a fun-filled day at SeaWorld San Antonio, we headed to Austin, but by the time we arrived, it was already 9 o'clock, and it was pretty dark outside. So, we didn’t get to enjoy any scenic views during the drive. We made our way to our Airbnb, grabbed some food, and called it a night. It had been a long and tiring day, but it was totally worth it!
The next day, we headed to our destination, the Texas State Capitol building. However, when we arrived, we found out that the building was closed for the day for unknown reasons. It was disappointing, but there wasn’t much we could do. We took some pictures, sat there for a bit, and enjoyed the weather. We decided to head to our next destination, which was going to be Hamilton Pool in Dripping Springs, TX.
Hamilton Pool Preserve & Pedernales River: A Nature Lover's Dream
As we made our way toward Hamilton Pool Preserve, the scenery was absolutely breathtaking. We arrived around 3:30 PM and parked our car, then began our light nature hike. From there, it was about a 10-minute walk to the Hamilton Pool along a beautiful trail. The environment that day felt fresh and moist, almost like the air after a rainstorm, with trees surrounding us from every side. On one side, we had a peaceful creek, and on the other side, a dense grove of trees. It truly felt like we were fully immersed in nature.
I’ve always loved trekking trails, and although this was a light trek, it was still incredibly refreshing. We took our time chatting and soaking in the natural beauty as we walked.
When we reached Hamilton Pool Preserve, I was excited since I had seen pictures online and was expecting something similar. However, to our disappointment, the pool was dried up during that time of the year. But we didn’t let that ruin our adventure. We decided to keep exploring and headed to the Pedernales River, which was just a short trek further. The spot was peaceful, and we took some great photos to capture the memories before heading back.
After visiting Hamilton Pool, we headed to the Oasis on Lake Travis to catch the sunset, and it was absolutely worth the wait. The drive was scenic, and we arrived just in time to see the sky start to change colors. Known for its breathtaking panoramic views of Lake Travis, the Oasis is the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy nature’s beauty.
We grabbed drinks and settled in, taking in the stunning sight.the sky exploded in hues of yellow, orange, and pink, reflecting beautifully on the water.t was the perfect way to wrap up the day—relaxing with good company, enjoying the sunset, and soaking in the peaceful vibes of Lake Travis.
Never to Miss: Mount Bonnell in Austin, Texas
On December 25th, we were heading back home to Dallas, TX, but before we left, our friend mentioned a must-visit spot called Mount Bonnell. The area was super busy due to the holidays, and parking was tough to find. After waiting for a bit, we finally managed to snag a parking spot by the road. From there, we did a short trek to the viewpoint.
The hike was totally worth it! When we reached the top, the view was absolutely mesmerizing. We had a stunning, panoramic view of the river and the surrounding landscape. It was so beautiful that words can't quite do it justice. The scenery was breathtaking, and it felt like the perfect way to end our trip before heading home.
