How I Got Rid of Pigmentation: My Complete Skincare Routine for Dark Spots
I’ve struggled with pigmentation since my teenage years, and honestly, I never really knew what caused it. But one thing was clear—it affected my confidence for a long time. I tried so many things. I consulted dermatologists, took vitamins and ointments, and for a while, it seemed to fade. But like clockwork, after a month, it would come back. It was frustrating.
Then someone suggested homeopathy, so I gave it a shot for six months. They say homeopathy works slowly, so I waited patiently—but still, no results. I even focused on eating healthy, hoping to tackle the issue from the inside out, but that didn’t help either. Eventually, I just accepted it and stopped trying.
Then in 2017, my wedding was fixed, and suddenly, I felt the urge to do something about it again. I gave over-the-counter medicines another shot, and they worked—but only temporarily. I got married, stopped using them, and of course, the pigmentation came right back.
And Then... I Found Something That Actually Worked!"
One day, I was visiting my sister-in-law, and during our casual chat, she mentioned the L’Oréal Paris Hyaluronic Acid Cream and how much she loved it. She said it made her skin look plump and hydrated.
After coming home, I thought, why not give it a try? While browsing for the moisturizer, I came across the L’Oréal Paris Glycolic Acid Cream and Serum—a combo specifically designed for dark spots and blemishes. I had tried so many creams that were suggested by dermatologists but never tried something fancy. Although I didn’t have much hope for this product, at that time, I was only focusing on good skincare and healthy skin, with or without pigmentation.
Without expecting too much from this product, I decided to give it a shot!
How a Casual Chat Led Me to My Skincare Game-Changer
The product arrived! I ordered the day and night combo, and along with that, I got the Neutrogena SPF 50. Over the years, I’ve learned the importance of sunscreen—it's the one thing I never skip when stepping out in the sun!
I started following my skincare routine, and after just 15 days, I could visibly see a difference in my skin tone. My skin was brighter, and the pigmentation had lightened. These were the results I had hoped for, but the real question was: would it last? So, I stuck to my skincare routine religiously. Let me tell you more about it... My skin tends to be super dry during the winter, while in the summer, it’s a combination type—my T-zone gets oily. Because of this, I make sure to adjust my skincare routine accordingly to keep my skin balanced and healthy throughout the year.
My Morning Skincare Routine:
Cleanse: I start by washing my face with Neutrogena Grapefruit Face Wash. This face wash works really well for me, especially because it contains salicylic acid, which helps treat acne and keeps my skin clear.
Tone: Next, I apply L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Crystal Micro Essence. I use this on alternate days to give my skin that extra glow and hydration.
Serum: I apply L'Oréal Paris Glycolic Serum. It helps with pigmentation and brightens my skin tone.
Moisturize: After serum, I follow up with L'Oréal Paris Glycolic Cream, which helps keep my skin smooth and nourished.
Sun Protection: Lastly, I always apply Neutrogena SPF 50 sunscreen to protect my skin from harmful UV rays. Sunscreen is a must for healthy, glowing skin!
By following this skincare routine every morning, I’ve noticed brighter skin and a reduction in pigmentation.
My night Skincare Routine:
My Nighttime Skincare Routine:Before bed, I make sure to follow my nighttime skincare routine. It’s super important to sleep with a clean face to let your skin repair overnight.
Cleanse: I start by washing my face with the same Neutrogena Grapefruit Face Wash to remove any makeup, dirt, and oil from the day.
Tone: After cleansing, I apply L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Crystal Micro Essence. Just like in the morning, this helps hydrate and rejuvenate my skin overnight.
Serum: On alternate nights, I use L'Oréal Paris Glycolic Serum to help lighten dark spots and promote a smooth skin texture.
Night cream: Instead of the day cream, I apply L'Oreal Paris Glycolic-Bright Glowing Cream Night to nourish and hydrate my skin while I sleep. This helps with overnight repair and ensures my skin stays moisturized.
Moisturize: For moisturizing, I use CeraVe Night Cream. I have dry skin so It’s perfect for replenishing my skin overnight, providing deep hydration, and helping to restore my skin's natural barrier.
Following this routine ensures my skin stays fresh, nourished, and ready for a new day!
Consistency is Key
I started my skincare routine like this, and it really improved my skin. Now, I have much less pigmentation and fewer blemishes. This routine has been especially effective for managing melasma, a type of pigmentation. The results are long-lasting.
However, sometimes when I’m not following my usual routine, such as during the winter when my skin tends to get drier, I have to be extra careful about what I apply to my face. Glycolic acid can be harsh on the skin in colder months, at least in my case, so I stop using it for a month or two. But even when I’m not using the product, my pigmentation doesn’t come back. For me, this skincare routine has truly been the real deal!
